Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Fish Performance Manager and regional teams with daily salmon husbandry tasks.
  • Work closely with the Hobart-based Control Room to support feeding operations.
  • Maintain vessels and ensure safe conduct while acting as skipper or crew member.
  • Keep marine sites and shore bases clean, organised, and well maintained.
  • Monitor and maintain feed spreaders, cameras, and winches.
  • Observe fish hunger levels and report behavioural or predator-related changes.
  • Communicate updates to the Control Room, Fish Performance Managers, and Wildlife Team.
  • Repair and maintain feed-related equipment.
  • Assist with feed transfers to feed barges and report maintenance issues.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including feed equipment audits and asset tracking.
  • Ensure feed barge maintenance requests are completed efficiently.
  • Assist with equipment installation and pen mooring maintenance.
  • Monitor and report predator activity, including seals and birds.
  • Clean equipment according to biosecurity procedures.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety instructions.
  • Perform other duties as reasonably directed.

Requirements

  • Experience working safely in a dynamic and operational environment.
  • Ability to identify risks and take appropriate action.
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills with managers, colleagues, and other crews.
  • Coxswain’s ticket (desirable).
  • Certificate III in Aquaculture (desirable but not essential).
  • Willingness to undertake a pre-employment health assessment.
  • Legal work authorisation in Australia (preferred).
